Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for a renewed round of peace talks with Russia, signaling a potential diplomatic shift amid the ongoing war that has dragged on for more than two years with no clear resolution.
Speaking during a national address, Zelenskyy emphasized that “the path to lasting peace must remain open,” and invited international mediators to help facilitate discussions. His proposal comes as both sides remain locked in a military stalemate and international support dynamics begin to shift.
While previous peace talks have collapsed due to disagreements over territory and sovereignty, the Ukrainian leader stressed that the latest initiative is “not about surrender but about saving lives and securing a just peace.”
The Kremlin has not yet responded formally to the proposal, though some Russian officials have previously indicated conditional openness to negotiations.
Analysts say the move could test international resolve and reshape the diplomatic landscape ahead of winter, when battlefield conditions may again grind to a halt.
