Germany is planning substantial new orders for military jets and armored vehicles as part of its effort to modernize its armed forces, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The procurement drive, expected to be worth billions of euros, comes as Berlin intensifies its defense posture amid rising geopolitical tensions and a growing emphasis on NATO commitments. The planned purchases include advanced fighter aircraft and a new generation of infantry fighting vehicles, the sources said.
The initiative follows Germany’s historic decision in 2022 to establish a €100 billion special defense fund aimed at reversing years of underinvestment in the Bundeswehr. While official announcements have yet to be made, insiders suggest contracts could be finalized by the end of the year.
Defense industry representatives declined to comment, but analysts say the move reflects a broader shift in German security policy. The Ministry of Defense has reportedly been in talks with several domestic and international suppliers, including major European and American defense firms.
