Taiwan is Being Targeted by China: What Is the US Going to Do?

1 min read

Tensions between China and Taiwan have escalated significantly, with Beijing increasing military activities and diplomatic pressure aimed at asserting control over the self-governed island. China views Taiwan as a breakaway province and has not ruled out using force to achieve reunification.

In response, the United States, which maintains a policy of strategic ambiguity but is committed to supporting Taiwan’s defense under the Taiwan Relations Act, is closely monitoring the situation. Washington has been strengthening its ties with Taiwan by increasing arms sales, conducting joint military exercises in the region, and enhancing diplomatic support.

The US government has also engaged in diplomatic efforts to rally allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific to present a united front against potential aggression. At the same time, Washington is urging China to resolve differences peacefully to avoid destabilizing the region.

The situation remains fluid, with the US balancing deterrence and dialogue to prevent conflict while ensuring Taiwan can defend itself. How the US responds in the coming months will be critical in shaping the future stability of the Taiwan Strait and broader regional security.
