The Active Climate Change Citizenship for a Just Transition in South Africa (SA Climate Change Champs) initiative, a project delivered by GreenCape, is proud to announce its official partnership as the Endorsing Partner of the 2024 Sasol Solar Challenge, furthering its commitment to sustainable innovation and development.
By joining forces with the Sasol Solar Challenge, GreenCape amplifies the event’s media visibility and community engagement, contributing to its growing impact on both local and international stages.
The partnership with SSC2024 was a strategic alignment between two key players in the sustainability space. Leveraging its extensive network of media contacts, GreenCape ensured that the Sasol Solar Challenge reached a broader audience, drawing attention to the event’s mission to promote sustainable energy solutions and inspire future generations. With GreenCape’s support, the challenge will be highlighted across a wide range of media platforms, emphasising the importance of clean energy innovation.
In addition to driving media exposure, GreenCapeplayed a crucial role in enhancing the Sasol Solar Challenge’s schools program. This initiative connected students and educational institutions with the competition, offering young minds the opportunity to learn about renewable energy technologies and sustainable practices. GreenCape’s involvement facilitated meaningful engagement between local communities and the event, inspiring the next generation of engineers, innovators, and sustainability advocates.
A group of eager youth from Climate Clubs in the Northern and Western Cape as part of the SA Climate Change Champs project are buzzing with excitement after being granted an exclusive opportunity to engage with the electric vehicles and solar energy as part of the Schools Programme. As part of their participation in the 2024 Sasol Solar Challenge, these youth learners have been given a front-row seat to witness practical applications of renewable energy and electric mobility beyond the curriculum in a classroom.
The SA Climate Change Champs, initiative funded by the European Union, implemented in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, and delivered by GreenCape, aims to enable constructive and collaborative engagement by communities, women and youth in climate mitigation and adaptation. Through this project, youth are made aware of the array of opportunities in a green economy and growing renewable energy industry in South Africa.

We hope that they take this back to their communities and schools and consider taking up STEM subjects in their academic curricula.. This partnership allows us to support an event that not only showcases innovative solar-powered vehicles but also engages and educates the youth on renewable energy. It’s a unique opportunity to enable youth and communities to engage leaders as active citizens.”
